Estudante do CFJL

My name is Georgia Simionato, I’m 18 years old, and I’m currently a senior student in Brazil. From August 9th to 23rd, I had the opportunity to participate in a WorkCamp in Hönow, a village in the Brandenburg district of Berlin, Germany.

For two weeks, I lived with amazing young people from more than eight different countries. It was amazing how, in such a short time, we were able to create incredible memories and build such strong bonds, to the point of missing people who were by my side for only a few days.

Our days followed a routine: we worked until around 2 p.m., and in the remaining time there were always activities to enjoy. Sometimes we stayed at the camp, went to the lake, or explored Berlin and nearby cities. Each experience broadened my perspective even more.

One of the most remarkable moments for me was connecting with the local community, made up mostly of elderly people who didn’t speak English. Even without sharing the same language, I found ways to communicate and learn from them, which showed me in practice that connection and empathy go beyond any language barrier.

Being in Hönow/Berlin made me feel truly free and happy. I also experienced this opportunity as a great responsibility: representing Brazil to so many people from different cultures. Knowing that, for some, I was their first impression of what a Brazilian is like filled me with pride and reinforced my belief that we are a warm, welcoming, and service-minded people.

This experience will forever remain with me as a milestone of personal, cultural, and human growth.
